|Linda Key-Bentley began drawing at a young age inspired by and acquiring her fatherís artistic vision. At age eleven, she began practicing the fundamentals of drawing using photographs as reference. Decades later, she continues to use photographic reference and the traditional principals of drawing as the foundation in creating her architectural works.
In 1982, she began depicting a series of heritage buildings located in Red Deer, Alberta where she was raised. Accustomed to working in the ink medium as a commercial artist, Linda began applying the pointillist technique to achieve her desired tonal variations of the building exterior. Thus began her professional visual arts career, spanning thirty-five years, specializing in architectural renderings and her lifelong interest in depicting old building facades. Well known for her pen and ink renderings, depicting heritage and historical buildings across Canada, she has fulfilled numerous corporate and private commissions.
Linda has worked in a variety of mediums, including pastel and watercolours, but took a departure from her works on paper and in 2007 began painting on canvas. Since then, her paintings focus on her interpretation of the building design emphasizing the colour, light, and texture of the exterior building materials. She strives to evoke a sense of solitude in place and time in her architectural paintings, thus the absence of people and selective choice of visual imagery in her works. She enjoys painting her pictorial archive of old buildings, created and built by artisans, reflecting the life and culture of the time. Linda resides in the historic community of Inglewood in Calgary, Alberta.
