RCA, CSPWC (1910 - 1996)

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Tinning studied art in Winnipeg, Manitoba; at the Elliot O'Hara Water Colouar School, Goose Rock Beach, Maine (1938); and in the Art Students' League, New York City (1938).He came to Montreal, Quebec in 1938 where he remaied active until his death.He was an official war artist in Italy (1943-1946).Working in oil, watercolour, and gouache, his subjects include landscape, figures, Montreal streetscapes, and floral still life in a representational style.He also travelled and painted in the interior of British Columbia, Louisiana, and Jamaica.He exhibited with the RCA in 1938 and 1955, and the AAM/MMFA in 1939-1957.His work is in the collections of the CCAG, CWM, MMFA, NAC, NGC and RMG.
