James Agrell SmithCPE,FCA (1913-1988)

Born in Stettler, Alberta, Smith studied at Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick (summer 1944), but is mainly a self-taught printmaker.Working in sumi-ink, wood engraving, woodcuts and woodblock prints, his subjects include black-and-white portrait, self-portraits, figures, native scenes prairie farm landscapes with fences and horses.He was also a writer and book illustrator, and retired from working in the Post office in 1970.He was active in Alberta from 1953 and died in Red Deer, Alberta.His work is in the collections of the AAF, EAG, GM and ROM.
