Biography Based in Canmore, Alberta, Jillian Roulet uses various textile mediums to create art for the wall, and functional pieces such as scarves and bags. “My work reflects my passion for vibrant colours and nature.”
“I also enjoy the creative process; not knowing what the end result will be and experimenting to create something. I work mainly with natural fibres - cotton, linen, wool and silk, and dye my own fabrics and yarns using commercial or natural dyes. A variety of techniques are used including: dyeing, painting, printing, felting, and machine and hand stitching. My goal is to make a piece of art that is attractive from a distance and also invites the viewer to look closer”
She has received a number of commissions and awards for her work and has been featured in Quilter’s World magazine (November 2018). Jillian Roulet’s work is displayed regularly in the Canmore Art Guild gallery. Contact: jillianroulet@gmail.com
ARTIST STATEMENT
“ I was delighted to be selected to create three textile art pieces for the new YW Hub in Calgary. I have a great deal of respect for the work done by the YW and have been on the Board of Directors for the Banff YW for a number of years.
This commission challenged me to work at a small scale. As my work is usually large, the commission caused me to look differently at my work and see new opportunities. I have enjoyed being part of a larger group of like minded individuals striving to create art that would provide some comfort to those using the YW Hub facilities.”
