Biography
Linda McBain Cuyler creates colourful, highly-textured artworks by applying paint to her canvasses and then stitching onto them with her sewing machine. Her focus is on small nature vignettes and on landscapes, which are filled with life and movement.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba, Linda worked as an interior designer, an embroidery designer and then a fabric bannermaker. For over 20 years she has been a full-time fibre artist. She has exhibited widely, including at the Cheongju Craft Biennale in South Korea and at the Museum of Vancouver as part of the 2010 Olympics.

Linda nominated for an Alberta Craft Council Rxcellence Award and received an Edmonton Artist Trust Fund Award. She exhibits at gallery shops such as the Alberta Craft Council, Alberta Branded and Galleria Inglewood. Her art can be found in public and private collections from Japan to England.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The YW Hub project has given me an opportunity to create a series of works depicting landscapes found in Calgary and the surrounding area. By choosing some of the best loved prairie landscape and nature images - trees, distant mountains, hay bales and waving grasses - I hope that I have created art which has the calming effects of nature, within the office environment. Im happy to have my work included in the larger YW Hub collection and to be in the company of so many talented women artists.
